I have the newest Motorola phone and I can't figure out how to get the battery percentage to display. I have checked all the typical settings sections.

I have a Moto X so it might be different but I'm guessing it's the same. Worth a try anyway.
First you swipe down from the main screen to see the 'notifications screen'. At the very upper-left corner is an icon, and when you touch that you get a screen of controls. One of them is a battery icon with a percentage under it (mine says 67% now). That's the percentage of charge. If you touch the icon it will show you a chart of how charged the battery has been since the phone was last turned on, or last fully charged.
It might not work on your phone, in fact I bet you've already heard about and tried it. But if not, then try it.

It can be very useful to see your battery life in percentage terms instead of just the icon.
To enable this, go to Settings – My device – Display and tick Display battery percentage.

Settings - general - battery - check the show battery percentage
