Having got both an Android device (tablet) and had two iphones (a 4, now a 5), and spent some time messing with a relatives S3, I'd say the iphone. There are many times more apps on Android, but the quality control is nonexistent - trying to find one that actually works right for a particular thing is a nightmare. The Apple ones are far fewer but generally all work as they are supposed to. As others have said, many apps are released for both Apple and Android platforms. The final decision is down to personal preference - look at both and see how easy it is to do the type of thing you want..

I would get an iphone 4. Flash isn't as big of an issue as you probably think and its got a great mobile operating system, resolution, touch screen and the best app market at the moment (though android is catching up).

I'm a computer geek and I thought no flash would be an epic loss but while it pisses me off at times, I still can't believe how well everything comes into place with an iphone.

Also if you really want flash you could Jailbreak it which is perfectly legal and can be reversed easily.

The only problem with the iphone 4 is its durability, it is all glass and can shatter after one drop but if you get a good case for it you will never have an issue with that.

Whatever you do, don’t get an iPhone! Apple are going through a bad technical patch at the moment and we wait to see how they are going to resolve things. The iPhone, the iPad and the iPod Nano are all affected by things like incorrect signal strength displays, poor signal strength, overheating and poor visibility problems.

Other phones have better technology than the iPhone and it will be a while before the iPhone catches up. Android phones are quicker, have good signal receivers, can do genuine multitasking (something the iPhones cannot do) and unlike iPhones, they are not restricted by what apps they can have.

Android phones are the future now.

Just got the Samsung Galaxy S and it's probably the best phone I've ever has, stylish, slim, easy to use, bright, more apps than I could ever use and the deal breaker is I got in on a tariff which is half the monthly cost of the Iphone which in my view has a ridiculous minimum monthly price for what is basically a phone.
