I need some Motorola droid video converting help?

I use handbrake for my mac currently to convert videos. It use to work perfectly and now the video presets are giving me hell. The recommended w848/h480 will no longer work. I put those presets in but when I transfer the video to my phone and play it, It does not fill the screen. I get black bars to the left and right of the video. I have other videos and movies I have done in the past no problem. I have the latest version of handbrake and I followed the forums that have all the help and tutorials and its been 2 hours of trial and error and I am so frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.
