Why do people record this message for their voicemail: "Hi, You have reached (insert phone number), we are not here... etc etc"
I just dialed that same number (obviously)... why waste our time repeating this useless information? Just say "I'm not here, leave a message"...
I understand some people don't like to give their name out for privacy but... why bother repeating the number?

Because people dial the wrong number all the time. I get calls and messages for people who don't live here. Which is why I put my number on the outgoing message. Then people can say "Oops, I dialed the wrong number" instead of leaving a 5 minute message about how grandpa Joe blow is in the hospital with a gastrointestinal blockage and could you please bring his favorite blanket from Aunt Bertha's place etc etc...

It is just an attempt to compensate for other people's carelessness.

People sometimes misdial. Buy repeating their phone number, people are simply telling you what number you have reached. Then the person who dialed may realize it is not the number they meant to dial and therefore, don't need to leave a message after all.

in case you may have dialed the wrong number (no need to leave a message then)

or maybe they just dont know what else to say

or its proffessional

or its just a fad

um.....so you know that you called the right number. why waste time leaving a message for someone you dont even know and never hearing back from the person you wanted to talk to?

In case someone has dialled the wrong number, they'll leave you some crappy message you don't understand cos it's not meant for you.

I do it because I don't like my voice and I don't want other people to have to hear it.
