I have 2 email accounts - one with Yahoo and one with Hotmail, both linked to my iPhone. When I go to check for new messages, my Yahoo only downloads new messages, and when I read and delete them on my iphone they delete them in my actual inbox as well (which I want) However, when I go to get my Hotmail emails, even if i dont have any, it keeps downloading emails that are NOT new but I havent deleted from my inbox (some are months even years old). So no matter what, I always have 25 new messages. I delete them and more keep coming, and when I do delete them,, they aren't deleted in my inbox. Anyone have this same problem or know how to fix it??

This is happening because Hotmail uses a POP protocol meaning it's one way, pushes the email out to your phone where it's stored again separately and viewed separately. Yahoo is probably setup IMAP meaning you're viewing the data on the original server, so you can delete and manipulate it. Gmail uses IMAP too.

One solution is to use Hotmail via web application/Safari, it's quick and convenient if you keep a page open for it. Or figure out how to IMAP it into your message folder with the link below.

This is the designed functionally, and I don't think you can change it. Since your iPhone is not the mail server, it has to fetch a certain number of messages (25 in your case). I think you only want it to download unread messages, but I don't believe you can set it to do this. Just let it download the 25 messages, and when you get new ones, it removes the older ones so you only have 25 on your iPhone, but the rest stay on the server. I'm guessing your Yahoo! account doesn't have hardy any messages (since you delete them all), so it doesn't have any more to download. You could delete all your messages from Hotmail, then it would work like your Yahoo! mail.

I'm not sure why you can't delete hotmail messages from your iPhone (are you syncing afterwards?), but you can try going to hotmail.com in the safari browser and doing it that way. You have virtually unlimited hotmail space, so I never delete any of my hotmail messages, and just check them with safari.

Yeah i had the same problem. go to general then mail contacts and whatever and click on mail. then delete both accounts. once done, click the home button. then hold the home button and the shut off button at the same time. then start the phone back up. then add the accounts on your mail in general in the settings. this should work and also check the computer and try to do something to get it to work like play around with the mail options on the computer. this should work, if not call applecare support they should be glad to assist you as they did me :) Hope i helped :)
