What is everyone else here smoking? Moto X is better than the Nexus 5. Hell, I've had nexus 5 users play with my Moto X only to later put theirs on craigslist to buy a Moto X for themselves. Reasons why the Moto X is better? Let's take a look:
1. Build quality-Go to your cellphone service provider and weight and feel for yourself.
2. Waterproofing-I don't mean take your phone under water however if you were to be caught in the rain with your moto X you should be fine. Only the newer phones (like the galaxy S5) are now trying to catch up.
3. Screen size-yes the moto x screen is 4.7 and nexus 5 is 5.1 however this difference in size also makes a huge difference in being able "pocket" your phone (again try this if you can get your hands on both phones)
4. Battery life-The Moto X has a screen resolution of 720 (and smaller screen) vs 1080 but that is by design. Unless you have the phone really up close it will be hard to tell the difference in screen resolution. This, along with the X8 computing processor, helps with the phone's battery life. The moto x has better battery life period.
5. Always on Google Now-Yes the nexus 5 has this feature too but activating it kills the battery life whereas the X8 processor manages resources much better to have this on and not kill battery. PLUS it has voice recognition meaning that the phone will only respond to your command and not just anyone's command like the Nexus 5.
6. Active notifications-because of the screen technology on the moto x, the screen can notify you when you have a text, email or any other notification and gives you the opportunity to preview it without having to unlock or activate the phone's screen. Turning the phone's screen on and off throughout the day is a major battery killer and this is just another reason why the battery life is better on the moto x.
7. Moto Assist-Moto X can be programmed to go on silent automatically during meetings or night time when you usually go to sleep. Additionally the phone can be programmed to read out your incoming text messages while you drive. The Nexus may have something similar but this is something that is already program into the phone and ready to activate.
8. Google updates-if the roll out of kitkat is any indication, then I believe the the android updates will be second only to Nexus devices. Still pretty fast compared to any other devices.
I have nothing against the Nexus 5, still a great phone. Heck if the Moto X wasn't out then my phone today would be a Nexus 5. I have owned many nexus devices and love the nexus line however I just think that the design and engineering of the moto x makes it a step above the Nexus 5. My only complaint is when people blindly shout out a recommendation and don't bother qualifying why one is better than the other. I've listed my reasons why I think the X is better and I'd like to think that others who have done their homework have done the same.
