Iphone 3.0.1 update??????????????????????

Question

i recently bought an iphone 2g and accidentally updated to version 3.0.1 on itunes and apple completely F***ked me over. I wanted the iphone to use as an ipod touch, but no, apple wants ur money so basically the update requires you to have a valid sim card or ur iphone will be stuck in recovery mode and you cant do jack sh*t.

My question is do i have to only buy a sim card in order to use my iphone? or do i have to activate and get a plan with at&t? the cheapest plan i think is 50$ and i already have a mobile carrier and i was not planning on using my iphone as a phone but like i said Apple wants ur damn money.. im really pissed..

all right dude, check this out, so with every firmware you have to have a "valid sim card" that's why you jail break and activate it. if you want to use it as a itouch then just download redsn0w and the 3.0.1 firmware then jailbrake, it will unlock and activate along with adding the cool customizing apps! if you want to downgrade firmware, this is the challenging part. you need to download quickpwnRC3 and select your firmware (make sure you have your firmware downloaded) and go threw the process, MAKE SURE YOU SELECT ADD CYDIA AND INSTALLER AND UNLOCK OR THIS WONT WORK!! go threw with the instructions and when the phone turns white, unplug it. then open redsnow (not the current) and select firmware 2.2.1 and then ittl give ya some instructions again and then it will start jailbreaking. and our phone will be activated!! hope this helped!!

oh dude and btw, you cant really mess up your iphone by jailbreaking theres many ways to get into dfu mode. most people think the "bricked there iphone"when it wont turn on but really its in dfu mode, all you have to do is hold the top button and the home button for 10 sec. then power it on... so if i was you, id go for it.

Well, right now as u said u cant use ur iphone 2G! it's stuck in recovery mode and is aking u to insert a sim card before proceeding!! If this is right, then u're best option is to Jailbreak it!

I recommend using quickpwn or Ziphone!

Just type either of them in google and u get what u want ;)

Good luck and makes sure that the software that u're using it with matches ur Iphone Firmware!

If u messed it up, just restore it (%95 of times it fixes the issue)
