Now that metro PCs merged with t mobile will I be able to use T-Mobile sim card instead and not the metro sim card? I plan to buy the Samsung galaxy exhibit by metro.

Unknown. While MetroPCS phones (on T-Mob network) use SIMs, it's not known if they are T-mob sims or MetroPCS SIMs, or whether they are locked to MetroPCS sims.

I'd check with T-Mob.

The Metro PCS phone will not work with your SIM card. Metro PCS uses the CDMA standard. Tmobile is GSM. Your Tmobile SIM can easily move your account to another phone if it is a GSM phone whose firmware is set for Tmobile, and it can work in an unlocked GSM phone. If it is an unlocked GSM phone you would have telephony and your voice mail right away, but there would be some extra configuration needed to get it to work with the web and SMS services. A GSM phone that is locked to another carrier (e.g. AT&T) will not work with your Tmobile SIM card until you enter a code to unlock it. There would be other settings to change to access some Tmobile account services.

Through my past experience of swapping phones within contract time (I have a tendency to kill batteries) that REQUIRE a SIM has been successful. The SIM card only is tethered to the carrier not the phone. If you have a SIM and a phone that requires one, you should be ok.

EXAMPLE: I'm an AT&T customer but have purchased two T-Mobile phones in the past. They work fine.

After I purchased the phone, I call AT&T with the IMEI number on the phone and they are happy to charge me accordingly.

To be certain, I'd call my carrier and let them know that you are considering buying a phone, and have one to use on a trial basis. Is it compatible with your account/services.
