tracking devices on cell phones?

i've heard that cell phones now have tracking devices so parents can follow their kids? how does this work?

Big brother keeps getting bigger and bigger. If you are wanting to hide from your parents or whoever, you better lose that phone. Turning it off wont work either, you have to physically remove the battery.

No, the vast majority of cell phones do NOT have a tracking device in them. The cell company can find out the general area it's in IF it's being used at the time, by seeing which cell site it's sending to and receiving from -- depending on the density of cell sites, that area could be anywhere from a block or two up to many square miles. Those shows on TV that show people tracking somebody by their cell signal -- just TV fantasy. If you ask the cell company to try and locate it, they're gonna charge you...a lot :) Just call them and tell them it's lost, they'll deactivate it so nobody can run up your charges, and then get a new phone. Much cheaper and easier.

so you cannot track your children..
