I'd say the in-store experience would be better if you were looking for a deal on upgrading your phone because you can't haggle their website for better prices but you can talk the sales reps into lowering the price on the phone you want to something that sounds good to you.

With my experience, here is what I do. If you don't mind losing your current number, go to amazon.com and sign up for a new contract there. The reason being is because you will get a much much better discount on the phone through amazon.com. A $50 phone with T-Mobile will be either Free or -$50 on amazon.com (Negative meaning you will make $50 after the mail in rebate)

If you do want to keep your number, after you have decided on what phone you want, call T-Mobile customer service and threaten to cancel your service. They will offer any a much better deal than you would normally get from tmobile.com or the tmobile store. Just be firm on the phone and ask to speak to the cancellation department. They have the authority to give you sweet deals. Note that every time you call, its logged in their system, and if you call them 10 times, they will catch on that you are just trying to shop for the right rep.

So hit it hard the first time.

Buying directly from an Apple retail store will give you an all around better shopping experience, and they will even help you configure it free of charge. I believe that the only place that you can get it other than from Apple is from Best Buy, and it is doubtful that it will be available in Costco anytime soon, and even more doubtful that it will be significantly lower that Apple's price. If you wait a month or two, you may be able to get a refurbished one from Apple direct with the full warranty and Apple support.

my advice would be to go to the store. If you order online you won't be able to see how the phone works, know all of the features in the phone, etc. If you order online you do get better deals, and offers. For example, T-mobile online still sells the sidekick 3 online for a limited time, but you can't buy the phone anywhere on the street. Good luck.

You should shop around at stores. If you go to a t-mobile direct store, however, the prices and offers will be the same as the website. If you go to a place like Costco, you're talking to an indirect dealer, and they have more flexibility and different (usually better) offers.

I called the tmobile customer service today and asked for the cancellation department. I told them that I wanted to cancel my service. Let me tell u what happened...They gave me a brand new side kick 3 and they billed it to my cell phone..They took $10.00 off of my monthly bill and added some extra minutes and they paid for the express shipping. Awesome, the cell was $50.
