Being near that age myself, I know a bit about good phones. The best phone out there is the iPhone, but it's just too much money. Then there's BlackBerry. The BlackBerry is great for texting, surfing the web, and lots of other stuff. I personally have a Samsung Eternity. It's an AT&T phone and it has very long battery life, but is mostly for talking and texting. Touch screen phones are harder for texting because you can easily press the wrong thing or send the wrong thing (happens to me all the time). Blackberry phones are dead on texting phones and some are very cheap. All phones have the same talking capability so that doesn't matter much. Try to find a phone thats cheap, has a slider full QWERTY keyboard, a camera (optional), and is all in all, attractive. I don't know what company you are on so I cant really recommend many phones. Hope I helped, and get a cool phone.

The best advice anyone can give is to suggest that you should go to a phone shop with you father and have a browse.

Before you go, write down a few things that you want to be able to do with the phone. Mp3 player, decent camera, qwerty keyboard, touchscreen, etc etc..

Don't just assume that the iphone is the best thing out there. It isn't. But everyone wants one because Apple are so good at marketing.

In most phone shops they have replica handsets stuck on the walls so you can pick them up and have a good look at them. Chances are that you'll see one you really like the look of, and that'll influence your decision more than anything.

People on here will say 'get this phone', or 'get that phone' blah blah.. But in reality, it's you that has to live with it. So it's best for you to go to the shop and physically get hold of a few phones to see which one you like.

Also, a good website to look at is http://gsmarena.com

Since this is your first phone however, and your father is paying for it, i'd suggest that the first thing you need to be mindful of is cost. Not just the price of the handset itself, but the size of the bills too. Be responsible with how much you spend on calls/texts/bundles etc.. This is the best way to prove that you can be trusted.

An 11 year old doesn't need a phone.

can you be a little more specific? i mean, what would you be considering? at&t? t mobile? metroPCS?

it depends.

but overall, you need either a phone where you just need to slide open with a full QWERTY keyboard or just a simple flip phone.
