JAR(Java ARchive), it is used to distribute java classes and associate metadata while JAD(Java Application Descriptor) it is used to package Java Applications or games that can be downloaded to mobile phones. You should download them both. i hope this may help you!

.jad files contain a set of attributes enabling the identification, retrieval, and installation of MIDlets. .jar files are compressed file package for classes and data. They're a special .ZIP format, and is based on the standard ZIP file format with an optional manifest file. In simpler words, .jad files are for MIDlets (which are applications that use the Mobile Information Device Profile), while .jar files store many files inside and are more widely used. Since you haven't stated what kind of file you want to download, I can't properly answer your question. However, I think .jar would be better. Hope I helped. :)
