iPhone 5 or galaxy s4?
2013-05-06 00:27:14 UTC
I'm buying a new smart phone and can't choose between them. I Like that the galaxy is bigger, But i also like how the iPhone has a better interface. (In my opinion) I Am also looking for a good camera. I Am leaning more toward the S4 but i am not sure. Price does not matter btw. :)

These phone are NOT even in the same league, there is a Samsung Galaxy of space between them and many phones are much better than the IP5 so closer to the S IV.

FIRST http://finance.yahoo.com/news/8-things-the-iphone-5-still-can-t-do.html?_view=desktop&desktop_view_default=true

SECOND The Samsung Galaxy S II was released in MAY 2011 & has 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor with an 8Mp camera.

18 months later November 2012 Apple puts a 1.2Ghz Dual Core processor & 8Mp camera in a phone and call it the IP5

THIRD included in this answer is the list of phones that have NINE MORE features than the IP5 https://answersrip.com/question/index?qid=20130504054150AAU3Cdi

Sushan is making us Android users look bad. I know he/she is expressing their opinion, but the asker wants an unbiased view.

Here's a straight-up comparison:

Camera:

The S4 has a 13MP camera. Whilst this sounds better than the iPhone 5's 8MP camera, if you intend to upload photos, 8MP is pushing it. Yeah, PUSHING it. 8MP cameras usually take photos 1.5MB in size, whilst this doesn't sound like much, people will usually give up on waiting for a photo to download after a couple of seconds.

If you don't upload/use instagram, the has the better camera when compared to the iPh5's. It's sharper and has more modes. Just remember, taking photos in the dark, you're better off with a HTC One or a small digital camera. (Not the Galaxy Camera).

Interface:

Touchwiz sucks. Although it has more features, initial reviews refer to the software features as gimmicky, and stuff like Smart Stay don't work very well. Somehow, Samsung has also been able to lag, what is an extremely smooth Android version, on a Quad-Core phone. Wat. Touchwiz in certain elements is better than Stock Android in ease of use, but really lags behind Stock Android in performance and general consistency.

iOS has been tailored to the iPhone 5, so don't expect any form of lag. The interface is simple and easy to navigate, yet, after 6 iterations, does it start to look old now? (iOS 7 better fix this). Fluidity is great, consistency is great and features aren't as gimmicky.

Screen:

Galaxy S4 has a 1080p display. 'nuff said.

Build Materials/Quality:

OK, something important to consider.

The S4's build quality is good, however the materials used are not the best in the world (plastic if you will), but it's a fair trade-off for durability and better shock absorption (plastic back will fly off after heavy impact to disperse force).

On the other hand, the iPhone 5's materials are excellent, however, issues such as scuffs (friend got a new iPhone 5, 1 VERY visible scuff already, phone's a month old), bending (search iPhone 5 bending) and other issues are prevalent.

Well, I'm not going to say which phone to buy, but hopefully, this will make the choice easier.

My first choice would be the iPhone 5. However, with Android becoming increasingly popular nowadays, both are pretty leveled out. I had a Samsung Galaxy once and everything was great except the plastic build quality. Have you checked the HTC One? That's a great all rounding phone. Just my opinion

Aside from the fact that the only

people I know that still use Iphones

are over the age of 60 or under the

age of 8. - Not counting of course the

tweenies, their decisions are purely

based on opening up a magazine and

having their opinions replaced by

what they see.

I think this applies, it maybe more of

answering your question with an

analogy though.

We (android users) tend to figure out

ways to solve problems that we face,

it's a benefit of original thoughts,

you'll have them soon. - feel kinda

bad for your mom though, now that

celebrities and commercials are going

to dictate her opinions.

Welcome to the intelligent side of

mobile technology. At first it may feel

scary for you to step out of the

security-blanket that is cult apple. But

soon you'll learn to make your own

decisions based on facts and

experience, rather than being spoon-

fed your beliefs by paid celebrities

and douchebag hipsters. Don't be too

overwhelmed with your new found

freedoms with android, you'll learn to

harness the power soon enough.

And a little advice: when you start

feeling sorry for the isheep and their

ignorant understanding of

technology, try to fight the urge to

free them from the cult. Their

opinion's are not their own and they

will never understand, nor appreciate

your efforts. If you must help them,

use baby-steps. Make them think that

apple is great, while simultaneously

showing them its faults, e.g., -"Gee

Frank, my new S4 sure is pretty and

can do all this great stuff my Iphone

couldn't do, but you know what? I

kinda miss the simplicity of my old

Iphone. Sure everything is better in

this S4 by far, but I liked knowing

that every Iphone I buy would have

the same experience as the very first

one. There really is something to be

said about consistency and the lack

of surprise. **(here you want to

chuckle a bit to authenticate your

message, rather than show the

sarcasm)** I mean if everybody truly

liked change, we wouldn't be driving

cars that essentially use the same

technology as the first ones

designed.- right, am I right... You

know what they say if it's not broke

than why fix it..--maybe to keep you

up with the ever changing

technologies that make you awe-

struck when you experience them

and the new found possibilities (but

we'll just keep that to ourselves for

right now)."

This is why I believe that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is better than the iPhone 5

1. It is quicker (1.9 quad core processor/ 1.6ghz Octa core vs 1.3 dual core processor)

2. Microsd- you can expand the memory with a 64gb microsd. This a cheaper way to expand your memory and you can have a 16 gb S4 and still have more storage than iphone 5 if you get a 64gb microsd.

3. USB OTG- you can read usb keys no problem with an adapter so you can check out whats on them so you don't have to put your computer on.

4. Microusb charger- Better than the lighting connector as you can get them http://easi.ly and cheaply but also you might have it from other devices as it is becoming standard for smartphones to use microusb chargers.

5. Removable battery- This means you can replace the battery if you run out of charge when you are around unlike the iphone 5 which you have to charge or bring an external charger and charge it from there, however this is an awkward way of charging your phone. Also the removable battery can help you prevent water damage as you can remove the battery if it falls in water, thus reducing the chances of water damage.

6. NFC- Want to transfer a music album quicker than bluetooth, well now you can with NFC. You can also use Tectiles 2 to make your life easier

7. Customizable- Change launcher(Are you bored, get a new launcher that suits you and your personality), custom ROM your phone and have access to apps specifically made for rooted devices directly on the play store. You control the device so that it suits you.

8. Dropbox- Love cloud storage well Samsung is offering 50gb free of charge to S3 owners for 2 years on Dropbox. Backup music, video, photos(this can be done automatically), documents etc. Who doesn’t want this amount of free cloud storage?(You have to complete a certain amount of steps to get the free storage but none requires any credit card details or anything to complicated) (N.B Not everyone will be offered this bonus as carriers have been known to have stopped Samsung from offering this to customers)

9. Screen- It’s bigger but not to big. It has 441ppi vs iPhone5’s 326ppi plus the Amoled screen creates beautiful colors.

I also found no problems when using one hand, and I have medium hands if not small hands.

10. LED indicator- A small LED on the top of your device shows what notifications you got by distinguishing them with colours(For example blue for email, green for charged) This means you can see what the notification was about without putting your screen on. It is extremely useful feature for those than hate wasting time.

11. Android features-Widgets, live wallpapers, Google Now and all the beauty of android, widgets on the lockscreen etc

12. Samsung added features

a. Smartstay- won't turn the screen off if you are still looking at it.

b. Smartpause- pauses a video when you turn around and turns it back on when you turn back

c. Eye controlled webpage scrolling

d. Airview- check link to learn more http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S-4-display-Air-View-and-Air-Gesture-demoed-on-video_id40881

e. Infrared TV remote

f. External temperature and humidity sensors

g. Use the phone while using gloves

h. S Health- useful for health enthusiasts

i. S Translator- it’s all in the name a translator

j. Etc- I could go on but check the link to see even more features http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S4-10-exclusive-or-little-known-features-review_id41541

13. Camera- It has a 13mp camera vs iPhone 5’s 8mp. It has more features than than the iPhone’s camera which makes it even better.

a. Dual shot- take photos from both cameras so that you can include the photographer in a photo

b. Photo with audio message- record a message before or after a photo to add to a photo

c. Eraser shot- can remove unwanted moving content

d. Drama shot- takes pictures of a moving object and puts the moving object through the whole picture

e. More but those are the best

14. Multitasking- watch videos while online, write an email while watching a video, send a message while surfing the web, you can split the screen in two so you can multitask without a bother, this cannot be done on the iPhone 5.

15. Durability- The S4 does not suffer from scratches like the iphone 5 where the back of the phone is aluminium and scratches really easy, the S4 does not suffer this fate.
