Obviously, Apple and Microsoft are competitors so I wasn't sure.
Could I check my Hotmail and IM with Windows Live Messenger on my IPhone?

I have an iPhone and this was actually an issue for me. Basically, there is an Email feature on the iPhone and it works really really good... with certain email accounts... I couldn't get my hotmail account to work with it. There is apparently some sort of way to do it but I just couldn't get it to work and I'm fairly proficient with computers. You will definitely need some sort of tech help trying to get that set up. However your Yahoo account will work great. I would actually recommend setting up a gmail account to, they work great with the iPhone email feature. and if there is a way to route your emails from the one account to the other then you are made. And btw, don't bother with instant messengers on the iPhone. Just sign up for unlimited text and have people message your phone through texting, but instant messengers on phones aren't perfected technology and the iPhone isn't an exception (yet). I hope I was helpful to you, and if you have any questions on the iPhone feel free to email me // sleonchuck2@yahoo.com // I love to help people with things like this. Well good luck and peace.

There is an application within the iphone apps store (it's in the top ten of their download chart) called m-box mail, this enables your iphone OR itouch to be fully compatible with hotmail in every way. I downloaded it for my itouch and it's fantastic, it's cost a small amount but is well worth it and it's simple to d/load (as are all the apple store apps).
For Live messenger there is another FREE app from the apps store (actually there are a few) which enable you to use windows messenger fully via your iphone. the one i use is IM+, it's very popular and successful.
So yes on both counts!.
EDIT Stephen L, have a look at the apps store there is now a FULLY compatible hotmail application which works the same way as the default mail app within the iphone/itouch, it's called 'm-box mail', it's only been out a couple of weeks and it's fixed the problem for everybody who wanted hotmail incorporated into their device. None of the fancy diversion tactics or third party programmes are required now. Best of all you just require your address and password for a one time installation. (secure data is safe).
When you're offering online help, you must make sure your info is bang up to date ;)

Even though they are competitors doesn't mean that they would restrict access to things like email & instant messengers (many people on Macs have used Hotmail & Messenger for years).
The iPhone (@ least as far as Hotmail) is not restricted to do this. Messenger though, since no Messenger app exists does not work. You could download an alternative such as IM+ from the App Store & it would work as a Messenger.
