My daughter wants a new cell phone for Christmas and I'm looking on ebay for them but how do I know for sure that the phone will work with her sim card? Does any unlocked phone work with any plan? What about the phones that say unlocked but the phones themselves are made by Cingular or T-Mobile, for example, would they work with my provider, Cellone?

If you have a Sim Card and the phone is Unlocked GSM then you are fine. But remember unlocked phones do not have the same features as Locked phones.

I just bought a Nokia 8801 from Amazon. the phone is great, except I cant send Picture messages and cant get on the Internet.

I know that simply calling customer care they can send the settings to your phone, but that is a hassle unless you have T mobile. They are the only customer service that treats you right.

when i lost my phone, i was able to buy a prepaid phone from radioshack (or whoever), and I got a new sim card off ebay for $12 as opposed to $25 at cingular or radioshack, etc. Then I just removed the sim card in the prepaid and put in the new one from Ebay. then you call your carrier, cingular in my case, and they get the numbers off the new sim card, and you are good to go. you have to make sure the phone you buy is unlocked for the carrier you use.

yes but i advise you to get an international unlocked phone because the options for phones is endless and iether get a Nokia or Sony Ericsson those are the two most reliable.

I think you have to buy one on your network.
