First off, RIM is not about to go out of business. They're actually preparing for a January 2013 launch of their newest OS , BBOS 10 (or whatever its name is). However, they might be focusing on touchscreen-only devices, taking away that typing experience you're wanting.
There was actually a neat article about Windows Phone's awesome keyboard today over at one of their sties (will ink in the source). People (such as my sister, who went from Android to Windows Phone) have said that Windows Phone has one of the best keyboards around, partially because of a really good predictive text engine.
As for a device, I have the Nokia Lumia 920 (a Windows Phone 8 devices). The phone has the best camera you'll find on a smartphone in the US, with great low-light performance and a lens that greatly reduces shake in photos and videos. You are also getting the fastest (in terms of refresh rate and highest-resolution display around. You get twice the storage of the competition, at 32 GB (the iPhone 5, Galaxy S III, and Galaxy Note II all have 16 GB of storage, though neither the iPhone nor the Lumia 920 has the microSD support of the S III or Note II). You'll get built-in wireless charging (a feature missing from every other device except for the Verizon version of the HTC 8X, another Windows Phone), and you will get a free Nokia wireless charger (normally $50).
Through all of that, Nokia's top device is only $100 on-contract. You can also choose between red, black, (my choice because they had no red at the time), white, yellow, and cyan (with the last two only being sold online), more colors than are available for the competing devices. The phones are also VERY durable (survived keys, a knife, a hammer, and having a car run it over, glass-up), so you don't have to buy a case and pay up to $50 and cover up what is a very beautiful phone.
So, best camera, best display, more storage, more color options, highly durable, wireless charging, and $50 accessory for free. That's all for a device that's half the cost of the iPhone 5 or Galaxy III and one-third of the price of the Galaxy Note II. Nokia's selling the 920 cheaply in the US to sell more devices, and it would be my pick if it was $200. You're really getting what is basically the best hardware around for half the price, making the choice a no-brainer in my mind.
