Whih is really better. Which is really better? Verizon or Cingular. Many people think cingular has the fewest dropped calls but do they? Many people think telephia out of san francisco tested them for the fewest dropped calls. But they didn't. Cingular advertises fewest dropped calls, verizon advertises americas most reliable wireless network. Exactly the same meaning!

I'm from Canada, where Cingular and Verizon are not available as wireless service providers, but here is what I have found simply in going between providers myself. The technology between the two companies is different, Cingular using GSM technology and Verizon using CDMA technology (which I've found to be a lot better). GSM from what I've found actually does drop calls a lot more than CDMA does. That and, though I do know that the GSM technology will soon have (if it does not already) a data transmition technology as fast as the CDMA EV-Do technology, CDMA is much faster. It also is usually more powerful and able to progress farther into buildings than GSM.

Some people will say Cingular due to them having more coverage in places that Verizon doesn't have. Another thing to note is that Cingular is said to have the least dropped calls, but many of my friends that have Cingular have told me that sometimes they can dial a number, but it won't connect. Service wise I believe Verizon is better, although if you have a Bluetooth phone with Verizon, chances are that it's going to be crippled because they don't allow you to exchange ringers or photos via Bluetooth like the phones Cingular has. It just depends on what you're looking for in the company. Check out the Howard Forums if you want to get into more details. There is a lot of info there for those who seek it.

Ok we really should take a look at the technologies behind these 2 giants that play a Huge part in who's better. . .

go to this link & see 4 ur self the diff between GSM (cingular) & CDMA (verizon).

http://www.mrvfone.com.au/vfone/techtop/gsm_cdma.htm

On the Other hand, it depends where u travel. , based on the your needs either one could be considered the best.

Cingular has dead spots & so does Verizon.

But since the Cingular ATT merger. i beleive Cing. owns more towers.

I say Cingular! has the least dropped calls coz they have more towers.

Great debate. When I sold Verizon phones I use to talk about Consumer Reports thumbs up for Verizon's reception. Now my company no longer sells Verizon, I get bombarded with Cingular's advertisements saying it has been proven they have the best reception. Since I now sell Cingular I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but at the same time I'm just not confident. I'm anxious to hear of your data.

My guess is for Verizon

They beat every cell phone company out there when it came to Consumer Report's research awhile ago for several years in a row.

I had Verizon wireless. I remember going on trips with people and my phone working and the phones of my Friends not working. I have spoken to so many Verizon users who have the same stories. I haven't heard of stories like these from Cingular customers.

Also one of the main reasons for dropped calls is the phone call being switched from one tower to another. I think Cingular would be more prone to this since their company bought so many little companies with different technologies making it difficult to handoff from one tower to the other.

Anxious.

For one Cingular's Cell phones have a different technology than verizon's. Cingular Relies on GSM Technology which means the subscriber has to have a sim card in order to have service (Subsciber Information Module S.I.M.). On the other hand Verizon uses CDMA Known as Code Division Multiple access technology usually CDMA2000 which is 1XRTT 1 times radio transmission technology network. Cingular doesnt have this 1XRTT network so they are at a disadvantage in my opinion.
