My phone is pretty current and I'm able to receive video and pix messages and everything, yet my texts keep getting truncated! Even from other Verizon users!! Why is this and what can I do to fix it? It wasn't always like this.

Well im not sure what phone you have, but i just got a verizon phone this year (the LG chocolate phone) and my text messages are limited to 160 letters per message... if you go over it automatically puts it into a second message

not sure why this limit is there, it really sucks

The 160 character limit for text messages is based on the network capacity of the control channel of a cellular system. Normally the control channel passes info used to keep the phone in touch with the network while you're not on a call. But it's not always in use to full capacity. So, text messaging is allowed to better utilize bandwidth not being used.

Why 160 as opposed to more characters? It's a matter of how short is short until it's too long for the system to handle while passing real control messages.

Nothing on your end to fix it. It's really a matter of how Verizon wants to handle it and how your phone handles it as well. Some phones break up long texts before sending. Others put a meter on the bottom of the screen to prevent you from sending anything longer than 160.

When VZW receives a message >160 characters, it automatically breaks them up and sends them in 160-character chunks.

BTW, it's always been like this.
